Simon's Update
What a fantastic week it’s been in school! Our Open Afternoon was a real highlight—so lovely to see so many parents and carers in classrooms, talking with teachers about the children’s progress and celebrating their learning.
Daisy Class (Year 1) had a brilliant trip to the zoo. They came back full of stories—and, my word, they looked exhausted afterwards! It was wonderful to hear what they’d seen and experienced.
In a first for us, we even had a parrot pop into Open Afternoon—courtesy of one family. The parrot, affectionately known as “the bird,” made a charming change from the occasional pigeon that sometimes wanders in!
Next week, we will be introducing some Home Learning opportunities for over the half term. This is a fun, completely optional way for children to extend their learning at home. We’ve uploaded a set of activity sheets to our website and will talk through the learning opportunities with the children; we can also have them printed for children to take home. There’s no set deadline for the Home Learning, but we will add further activities over the course of the second half-term. We thought we would give Reception a bit of time to settle in, but we will have activities for those children after the October break as well.
If your child chooses to take part, we’d love them to bring any Home Learning into school so it can be shared, presented, and displayed in class.
For parents and carers who’d like to know more, our rationale for introducing Home Learning is available on the website. Thank you for supporting learning in a way that’s flexible, joyful, and child-led.

Our Learning Week
Brookfield School Community (PTA)
Thank you to everyone who attended our AGM on Tuesday. The Trustees’ Report and Financial Statements for the year ended 31 August 2025 were approved for submission with the Charity Commission. Our new committee line up for this year was elected: Niki and Stella will act as co-chairs with committee members Nadia, Matt, Holly, Kate and Jon. Graeme will carry on as Treasurer. We heard from Simon who presented the initiatives he would like the BSC to support this year with an emphasis on art, forest school, music and school trips.
Our first Bake Sale of the year on Thursday was a huge success raising £519. Thank you to all the amazing volunteer bakers, sellers and buyers!
Save the Date! Remember Remember the 5th of November Disco!
We’re planning a disco on Wednesday 5th of November, in the bottom hall of the school in the afternoon for children and their adults. More details to come soon, but please pop it in your diary.
Finally, here is a link to the BBC 500 words creative writing competition for children aged 5 to 11. This year every story submitted is entered into a random draw with the chance to win 500 books for their school and a literacy wall art. All stories must he submitted before 9pm, Friday 7th of November. Find all the details here:
