At Brookfield Primary School and Nurseries, our four core values are at the heart of everything we do. They shape our approach to teaching and learning, guide our expectations for behaviour and relationships, and help children develop the confidence, character and skills they need to thrive.
Our values are deliberately framed as "We..." statements because they belong to all of us. Children, staff and families share a responsibility for bringing them to life and making Brookfield a welcoming, ambitious and inspiring place to learn.
Our high expectations are reflected in our excellent academic outcomes. In 2026, Brookfield achieved some of its strongest results in a decade, with 76% of children reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics combined, compared with 63% nationally. Our younger pupils also achieved exceptional results, with 93% of Year 1 children meeting the expected standard in phonics and our Year 4 pupils achieving an impressive average score of 23.6 out of 25 in the Multiplication Tables Check, both well above the latest available national averages. These achievements reflect the hard work of our children and staff, our ambitious approach to teaching and learning, and our commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to achieve their very best.
We explicitly teach our values through our curriculum, PSHE lessons, assemblies and everyday interactions. They are also woven throughout the Brookfield Journey, our carefully planned programme of experiences, opportunities and challenges that enrich children's education from their earliest years through to Year 6.
We are Curious
We ask questions, explore big ideas and develop a lifelong love of learning.
At Brookfield, we want children to be fascinated by the world around them and confident enough to ask questions, challenge ideas and seek understanding. We encourage them to think deeply, listen to different perspectives and recognise that learning is about much more than simply knowing the right answer. We see curiosity in our children when they ask thoughtful questions, become absorbed in a book, investigate something unexpected or enthusiastically share a new discovery.
Through philosophy, debate, scientific investigation, Forest School and visits to places of cultural and historical significance, we create opportunities for children to explore beyond the classroom. Our assemblies and PSHE curriculum encourage children to think about important questions, understand the world around them and develop their own informed opinions.
We want every child to leave Brookfield with an enquiring mind, a love of discovery and the confidence to keep asking questions.
We are Creative
We think imaginatively, solve problems and express ourselves with confidence.
Creativity is a defining part of the Brookfield experience. We believe that every child has the capacity to think creatively, develop original ideas and find new ways of approaching challenges. We see creativity when children experiment with different solutions, express themselves through art, music or writing, collaborate to bring an idea to life or approach a familiar problem from a fresh perspective.
Our curriculum provides rich opportunities for children to develop their creativity through art, drama, music, design, performance and imaginative learning. As part of the Brookfield Journey, children experience opportunities such as performing Shakespeare, taking part in musical performances, developing creative projects and exploring enterprise. We want children to experience the excitement of creating something of their own and the pride that comes from sharing it with others.
We want every child to recognise their creative potential, discover their talents and have the confidence to express who they are.
We Take Responsibility
We make positive choices, show respect and take pride in our actions.
At Brookfield, we believe that responsibility begins with understanding how our choices affect ourselves, other people and the community around us. We have exceptionally high expectations for behaviour, kindness and respect, underpinned by clear boundaries, strong relationships and a warm, supportive environment. We see responsibility when children make thoughtful choices, care for their belongings and learning spaces, include others in their play, resolve disagreements respectfully and take ownership of their learning and behaviour.
Responsibility is taught explicitly through PSHE, assemblies and our everyday school routines, where children learn about healthy relationships, fairness, democracy, rights and responsibilities. As children progress through the Brookfield Journey, they are given increasing opportunities to contribute to school life through pupil voice, Brookfield Parliament, Young Leaders and other positions of responsibility. These experiences help children understand that their voices matter and that they have the power to make a positive difference.
We want every child to leave Brookfield as a thoughtful, respectful and responsible young person who understands their place in, and contribution to, the wider world.
We Rise to Challenges
We persevere, embrace new experiences and understand that mistakes are an important part of learning.
We want every child at Brookfield to believe in their ability to grow, improve and achieve things they may once have thought impossible. We encourage children to be ambitious, take sensible risks and approach challenges with courage and determination. We see this value when a child perseveres with a difficult maths problem, tries again after making a mistake, has the confidence to speak in front of others or steps outside their comfort zone to experience something new.
High expectations are central to our approach, but children are never expected to face challenges alone. Our staff provide the encouragement, guidance and support that enable children to develop resilience and independence. Through the Brookfield Journey, children encounter increasingly meaningful challenges, from performing to an audience and applying for leadership roles to developing enterprise skills and taking part in residential experiences away from home. These opportunities help children discover just how capable they can be.
We want every child to approach their future with confidence, resilience and the belief that challenges are opportunities to learn and grow.
Bringing Our Values to Life – The Brookfield Journey
We believe that a truly exceptional education is shaped not only by what children learn, but also by what they experience.
The Brookfield Journey is our commitment to providing every child with a rich range of memorable, meaningful and inspiring experiences throughout their time with us.
From exploring the natural world and discovering the arts to performing, debating, leading, creating and experiencing new places, we want children to encounter opportunities that broaden their horizons, spark new interests and develop their confidence.
Our Journey is designed to grow with our children. As they move through the school, the opportunities to take responsibility, demonstrate independence, face new challenges and discover their talents become increasingly ambitious.
Alongside these experiences, our PSHE curriculum and whole-school assemblies provide regular opportunities to explore our values more deeply. Children learn about relationships, wellbeing, equality, diversity, British Values and the responsibilities we share towards one another. Assemblies celebrate positive role models, introduce inspiring people and ideas, and encourage children to reflect on how their own actions can make a difference.
Most importantly, our values are visible in the everyday moments that make up school life: the kindness shown on the playground, the determination seen in classrooms, the thoughtful questions children ask and the pride they take in contributing to our community.
