It’s been a hot and very musical week at Brookfield!

On Wednesday, we continued our World at Work assembly series by welcoming a professional musician to speak to the children about their career and the journey that led them there. We were delighted to be joined by Alexis Nunes, drummer for The Kooks, who shared how he first developed his passion for music, the experiences at school that helped him along the way, and some fantastic advice for any budding young musicians.

Alexis also treated the children to a brilliant performance using a rather unusual drum kit, created from bits and pieces he found in our music room! It was a wonderful demonstration of creativity, and the children absolutely loved watching him perform. Since we began these monthly World at Work assemblies, we've welcomed a fascinating range of visitors who have inspired our children by sharing their different career journeys. We’re looking forward to continuing the series after the summer break.

On Friday, we were also incredibly fortunate to welcome Tobago Crusoe as part of our Windrush celebrations. A huge thank you to Melanie, Christel, Stephanie and all the members of the Anti-Racism Committee for organising such a special event, complete with delicious food, refreshing drinks and, of course, the wonderful music of Tobago. It was a truly lovely afternoon and a fitting way to celebrate the enormous contribution of the Windrush generation to our country.

In more musical experiences, I am absolutely in awe of our Year 6 children and their performance of The Wizard of Oz. They were simply sensational, and it was such a tremendously joyful occasion. Every single child rose to the challenge of performing on a real stage in a real theatre, showing incredible confidence, commitment and enthusiasm. They sang, acted and performed brilliantly, and it was a pleasure to see the months of hard work come together in such a memorable production. I can't thank them enough for giving us such a joyful, entertaining and fitting celebration to mark the end of their time here at Brookfield. Thank you, Year 6—you have made us all incredibly proud.

Next week marks the beginning of that familiar end-of-term feeling as we start preparing for the summer break. There will be plenty of opportunities to celebrate all that the children have achieved this year, while also beginning to say goodbye to our wonderful Year 6 pupils as they prepare for the exciting next stage of their journey. We’re looking forward to making their final days at Brookfield as memorable as possible.
